Here's what makes a psychic genuine — and how to spot the difference within a few minutes of any call.
1. Lived experience, not memorised lines
Real readers learned their craft over years of doing it — usually starting with friends and family, then strangers, then professionally. They can describe how their gift first showed up, how they developed it and how they handle days when the channel feels noisy. Fakes have a script. Real readers have stories.
2. They specialise honestly
Psychic ability is real but rarely universal. A great love reader may be only average at career questions. A brilliant medium may not be the right person for tarot. 4. They can say "I don't know"
This is the single most reliable marker of authenticity. A real reader is comfortable saying "that's not coming through" or "I'm not getting a clear answer on that — let's focus on what I am picking up." Fakes pretend omniscience because their reputation depends on it.
5. They give you back your power
The point of a real reading is to leave you clearer, calmer and more able to make your own decisions. A genuine reader explicitly hands the choice back to you: "Based on what I'm seeing, the most likely path is X — but the decision is yours, and here's what would shift it." Fakes encourage dependency.
6. They listen as much as they speak
Real readings are conversations, not monologues. The reader is tuning into your responses, refining what they're picking up, and shaping the reading to what's actually useful. If your reader talks at you for 30 minutes without ever pausing to check in, you are watching a performance, not receiving a reading.
7. Their language is precise, not theatrical
Genuine readers tend to be unexpectedly down-to-earth. Yes, they use the language of energy and intuition — but they're also surprisingly direct. "He's not over you, but he's also not going to act on it without a serious push from his side, and right now I don't see that push coming for several weeks." Compare that to "I sense the cosmic threads of your destiny entwining with another soul…" Pick the first one every time.
8. They are calm under your emotion
You may cry. You may shake. You may go silent. A real reader holds steady through all of it without rushing you, panicking, or getting swept up. They've sat with people in worse moments than yours. Their calm is part of why the reading works.
9. They don't need props to be accurate
Tarot, runes, scrying mirrors and other tools are absolutely valid — many genuine readers use them. But the tool is not the source of the accuracy. A skilled tarot reader will give you a clear reading from the cards and from straight intuition without them. The tool is a focus, not a crutch.
10. They have a real life outside the work
Genuine readers tend to have full lives — relationships, kids, hobbies, opinions about politics, the lot. They are not mystical figures who only appear in candlelight. The work is a profession, not a costume.

- They greet you like a person, not a customer.
- They ask one short question to focus the reading, not ten.
- They start sharing specific details quickly.
- They check in: "Does that resonate?"
- They are happy to be challenged.
What to do if your reader doesn't feel genuine
